Campervan day

Pleasant and easy to deal with
First time I have bought a car without seeing and test driving due to distance from home but wanted to trust the process. Gary that I dealt with was very good, informative and helped to smooth the process so had confidence all was going to be ok. Deal was all in place to make one journey and pass on my vehicle and drive away in new vehicle. My new car was generally what I expected, looks great and accepting that there may be a few age related marks on a 4 year old car. However on returning home (my fault also) I found a large number of scuff marks on the body work in various places, thankfully I have managed to polish out the majority and look good, I don’t know why these were not done as part of the preparation as I was able to do them. There are a couple of areas touched up with the completely wrong shade of white that could have been picked up and done right? Not suggesting CROWTHER did this but really should have been re done. I now need to get these sorted at my cost. Finally the rear parcel roller shelf has liquid stains, again these will come off but why not done as part off prep? Otherwise car is good. Would I do the long distance/ blind purchase again, probably not but it wouldn’t stop me dealing with CROWTHER again as long as the above issues would be resolved going forward.

Disappointing
Really poor. Would not recommend to my worst enemy. If I could hand the car back I would. Once they have your money that’s the end of it. Tried to get £399 from me for AA cover, which they said was a discounted price, only to get it for £1 a month for 12 months from the AA!!! Then found 1 bolt missing from each wheel. No apology or anything considering that would fail a mot. Do not trust anything that comes out their mouths…shocking!!!

Great, until there is an issue with the car
Bought a Porsche 911, reg RX08KJO from this company.
I reported issues with the car making it not fit for purpose and asked for a repair or refund under the Consumer Right Act 2015.

As I had spoken to Citizens Advice, Crowther Lodge refused to speak to me to get this sorted, and instead hid behind the services of Legal Solutions 4U with the purpose of getting out of repairing or refunding the car.

In the end I got all my money back, plus consequential costs, through the finance company, but Crowther Lodge only agreed to 'buy the car back' minus £300 for miles travelled.

The Long Version
Bore scoring is a very common problem with Porsche 911s
So as a condition of purchase I asked for a recent, clean bore score report.
They assured me it had been done, and was clear, but they had lost the paperwork.
I insisted I would not buy the car without, and they had the bore score done and supplied the paperwork and I bought the car.

DEFECTIVE RADIO
Very quickly I realised there was an intermittent issue with the radio which I reported and supplied a video to Crowther Lodge.
It often took me two emails to get one reply, and they refused to let me have the radio fixed closer to home and asked me to return the whole car some 3 hours drive to them.
This was until I said I would be rejecting the car if I had to return it, at which point they offered a postal repair service, which never materialised and the radio never got fixed.
They said the delay was because the manager was on holiday.

SLIPPING CLUTCH
Next I notice the clutch had started to slip.
I think this did happen on the test drive, but the salesman convinced me it was just me driving an unfamiliar car.
So I reported back to them, with video evidence and with a quote from my local garage asking to have it fixed here. Again they refused.
I tried to make arrangements to return the car, however they said this must be at my expense, which is against the CRA, and would also not reply to my email to arrange a date as they where now hiding behind LS4U.

When the car was eventually returned, they admitted there was evidence of clutch slip, they never proved it was caused by myself, but refused to pay for the repair, which under the CRA they must legally do one or the other.

BORE SCORE
Although Crowther Lodge said the engine did not have bore score, I had it checked out and it was reported to me that it did. I was given this in writing and with accompanying photographs of the issue.
I was assured by the very well respected Porsche specialist this was more bore scoring than would have happened in the time I owned the car, and I also contacted a professional witness who was willing to say this in court.
When the vehicle was finally returned Crowther Lodge said they had it inspected and there was no bore score.
I asked them for a copy of this new report and asked them to comment on the photographs I sent of the bore score.

They never send the report, they now changed their wording to "no bore score that would affect the value of the vehicle" and although they would not admit there was any bore score they offered half the money towards a £12,000 to have it fixed.

Or they would 'buy the car back' less £300 for mileage I'd covered.

When I refused this, they changed their wording back to "no evidence of bore score" and supplied the original pre-sale bore score report, not a new one.

OIL IN CYLINDERS
It was also reported to me, with pictures, that there was excess oil in the cylinders, possibly caused by bore score, bad piston rings or a number of other possible reasons.
Crowther Lodge never commented on this.

LEGAL SOLUTIONS 4U
There own reviews speak for themselves, and the type of clients who use them.

I got my full refund plus extra out of pocket costs back from the finance company I used.
But all Crowther Lodger ever refunded, sorry, bought back, from them was the value of the car minus the milage.

So this tactic worked for them, and they will do it to the next person who needs to return defective vehicle for a refund.

Friendly, Professional Service from Initial Enquiry through Pick Up and Beyond
Friendly patient response and dialogue with Steve over a part exchange process and purchase price of a Camper Van. Additional wind out awning requested and detachable tow bar, were all fitted within a week. Delighted with the van and the high quality conversion which puts more expensive conversions to shame. A thorough handover on pick up and a 3 year habitation warranty were welcomed. You don't take all the information in at the time so Steve and Gary are always available for follow up questions and mini 'How to videos' upon request. On pick up I noticed a crack in the rear tail light cluster and the bamboo table with an inappropriately fitted leg (on the wrong end of the table). Steve was on the phone to parts department and the Table manufacturer in my presence and replacements have turned up at my house within 3 days! Great service and I would thoroughly recommend the team at Crowther Campers from fair part exchange and a professional handover, with reassurance that if anything needs sorting afterwards they are responsive and deliver. Thanks guys I love my camper

First time campers ,great experience!
After spending weeks looking for our first VW CAMPERVAN we found Crowther Campers. We saw what we wanted pretty much straight away, Steve was very helpful and at no time did we feel under pressure to buy. In fact he told us to have a good think before we committed! Gary was also helpful when we rang in the week to confirm we wanted to buy.Aftercare has been excellent as well.
